Trust Horizon scholarship programme encourages new generation of qualified electrical workers

Trust Horizon is encouraging Eastern Bay students to consider a career in the energy and electricity field, with the continuation of their long-running scholarship programme.

Trust Horizon’s scholarships were created in response to the serious shortage of young people in the electricity supply industry. Now in their 18th year, these scholarships are continuing to help build a new generation of qualified electrical workers.

“Apprenticeships and scholarships are an important part of growing New Zealand’s future workforce,” says Trust Horizon trustee, David Glover. “Over the years, the Trust has been thrilled to be able to help young people build stable and successful careers in the Eastern Bay’s electricity industry.”

In partnership with the Power Engineering Excellence Trust, Trust Horizon is offering up to $10,000 in scholarships. To be eligible students must be studying Electrical Engineering at either the University of Auckland or Canterbury and they (or their guardians) must be permanent residents of the Eastern Bay of Plenty – including the Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki, and Kawerau Districts, and Kaingaroa Village. Applications close 15th August and can be applied for online here.

The Trust also offers Apprenticeship Awards all year round to help young people further their energy-related education on their way to stable and successful careers in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Applicants can apply online via the “Apply Now” section of Trust Horizon’s website.
