Trust Horizon has introduced a new online platform – SmartyGrants – to make it easier than ever for local organisations to apply for the funding they need. SmartyGrants is New Zealand’s premier grants application system. It offers a simple and intuitive way for charities, societies, and other organisations to apply for energy-related funding. Since switching to the new system, the Trust has already approved close to a quarter of a million dollars in grants.

In the past, grant applications were a cumbersome manual process, which was time-intensive for both applicants and the Trust. With SmartyGrants in place, applicants can confirm their eligibility and apply in approximately 60 minutes. “The changeover has been great, and for applications under $10,000 we can now make a decision within a month,” says Derek Caudwell, Trust Manager. “This has meant organisations who need financial support are able to get it quickly, and the community is seeing the beneficial outcomes of this funding sooner.”

Allison Windley, Trust Horizon’s Grants and Funding Facilitator, says the response from applicants has been very positive. “The majority are finding it easy to navigate and share their organisation and project details,” says Windley. “Support is available at any stage in the process. We welcome that contact with applicants to help achieve the best outcomes for all involved, and we continue to enhance the system as we move forward.”

The streamlined process provides two pathways for applicants, depending on the size of their grant requirement. There is a monthly round for grants under $10,000, and a quarterly round for those over $10,000.

Trust Horizon provides funding for projects and initiatives that will help achieve their mission to build pride, prosperity, and energy understanding and education in the community. The Trust encourages organisations who share that mission to check the eligibility criteria and apply.
