Trust Horizon welcomes new Future Director to the boardroom

Trust Horizon is pleased to announce the appointment of Georgina Fletcher as the organisation’s latest Board Observer under the Future Directors programme.

The Future Directors programme – an initiative from the Institute of Directors (IoD) – matches emerging governance talent with a host board for 12 to 18 months, providing the opportunity to observe high-level governance in action while bringing diverse voices to the boardroom.

For Trust Horizon, Georgina Fletcher was a standout candidate. After beginning her career in commercial property law, Georgina went on to become Whakatāne District Council’s General Manager of Community Experience, before taking on her current role as owner and director of Eastern Bay Distributors (Anchor Whakatāne). She also serves as Community Committee Lead at the Whakatāne Surf Lifesaving Club.

“Georgina brings a wealth of experience in strategic thinking, operational governance and community partnership,” says Trust Horizon Chair, David Glover. “She has consistently demonstrated a deep connection to the community, which aligns closely with the Trust’s values and purpose.”

Community has always been a central focus for Georgina. “My passion is giving back and applying my skills towards kaupapa that benefits communities,” she says. “Our communities thrive when we invest in people, place, and long-term wellbeing, and I’m excited to contribute to a Trust whose vision so strongly reflects those values.”

Having worked closely with many community organisations during her time with the Council, Georgina looks forward to reconnecting with those same groups through this new governance lens. “I’m really excited to get around the board table, and find out more about the aspirations, plans, and progress of the Eastern Bay’s brilliant community organisations.”

Georgina’s appointment follows Trust Horizon’s successful first year with the Future Directors programme. Outgoing Board Observer, Kataraina Monika, describes her year with the Trust as a unique and valuable experience.

“I am grateful to the Board, management, and wider Trust Horizon whānau for the support and generosity shown throughout the year,” says Kataraina. “This experience has added important feathers to my kete, strengthening my perspective and my commitment to governance that is strategic, values-led, and grounded in lasting prosperity for our people and places.”
