Trust Horizon increases Community Energy Contribution Grant to $200,000

Building on last year’s $150,000 funding pool, Trust Horizon has approved a further $50,000 for the 2026 Community Energy Contribution Grant fund – now allocating a total of $200,000 to support marae and community groups with their energy costs.

When the grant launched in 2025, approved applications received a contribution of up to $2,000 toward their facility’s power bill. This number has also been increased, with successful applicants now set to receive up to $2,500 each.

The 2025 Community Energy Contribution Grant saw a total of $112,000 allocated to 58 applicants. With this year’s 25% funding pool increase, Trust Horizon hopes to support even more community groups with their operational costs and transition to sustainable energy sources.

“Marae, halls, churches and club facilities deliver real social value to communities across the region,” says Trust Horizon Chair, David Glover. “Their ability to host essential activities and act as gathering points in emergencies makes their long-term sustainability vital, and we’re pleased to support that with this grant.”

To be eligible, applicants must be marae, sports clubs, community groups or churches located in the Eastern Bay, who are operating their own facilities. Committees operating community halls – whose electricity costs are not funded by the district councils – are also eligible to apply.

Applications are open from February to 31 March 2026, and will be considered during the month following submission. Grants will continue to be available until 31 March 2026, or until the $200,000 funding pool is fully allocated.

The simple and straightforward online application process takes approximately 30 minutes. To apply, visit trusthorizon.org.nz or for any questions contact the Trust directly on 07 307 0893.
