This year’s Horizon Energy Group Business Excellence Awards will celebrate those who operate with their business’s environmental impact in mind, with the Trust Horizon Sustainability Award.

In association with the Eastern Bay Chamber of Commerce, the HEG Business Excellence Awards have been a bi-annual highlight in the business community for over 15 years. Over those years, the emphasis placed on sustainability has only grown stronger. “Now more than ever, businesses are thinking of ways to become more sustainable,” says Eastern Bay Chamber of Commerce General Manager, Lucy Devany. “There are lots of reasons why becoming more sustainable will help your business. It’s something every business should be looking at, so we’re very grateful to the Trust for making this award possible.”

Trust Horizon has lent their support to the HEG Business Excellence Awards in the past. However, this year will be the Trust’s first enabling the new Sustainability Award. “When Trust Horizon expressed their interest in creating the award, we quickly jumped on board,” says Devany. “The Trust worked closely with us on what the award would look like, its criteria, and what they were looking for in an applicant.” Trust Horizon will also have a role in judging the award’s inaugural winner.

“The award is aimed at applicants who have incorporated sustainability into their long-term strategy. It considers elements such as energy and environmental initiatives, sustainable suppliers, waste disposal, and staff’s inclusion in the sustainability journey,” says Trust Manager Derek Caudwell.

For Trust Horizon, the Sustainability Award is a neat intersection of two of the organisation’s biggest interests; the future of energy, and the future of the community. “The work we do at the Trust aims to drive businesses forward and build pride in our region,” says Trust Horizon Deputy Chair, David Bulley. “This award does just that. It recognises local businesses that are addressing their impact on the environment, and we hope it will inspire all businesses in the region to also consider sustainability.”

The HEG Business Excellence Awards will take place on August 14th, and entries will close at the end of May. “The last couple of years have seen some trying times, and businesses are well in need of a celebration,” says Devany. “If your business is doing sustainability well, we encourage you to enter, and join us as we celebrate those making a difference in the community.”
