Trust Horizon is encouraging Eastern Bay students to consider a career in the energy and electricity field, with the continuation of their long-running scholarship programme.

Trust Horizon’s scholarships were created in response to the serious shortage of young people in the electricity supply industry. Now in their 17th year, these scholarships are continuing to help build a new generation of qualified electrical workers.

“Apprenticeships and scholarships are an important part of growing New Zealand’s future workforce,” says Trust Horizon trustee, David Glover.  “Over the years, the Trust has been thrilled to be able to help young people build stable and successful careers in the Eastern Bay’s electricity industry.”

To apply for a scholarship, students must be aged 16 years or over. They (or their guardians) must be permanent residents of the Eastern Bay of Plenty – including the Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki, and Kawerau Districts, and Kaingaroa Village.

Students can apply for scholarships for a diploma or degree courses in an electrical or energy related pre-trade. The scholarships will be awarded on the recommendation of a selection committee nominated by the Trust, with the successful candidates receiving a financial contribution towards their course fees of up to $5k.

Candidates can apply online via the “Apply Now” section of Trust Horizon’s website. The 2022 tertiary year’s scholarship grant round opens Monday 18th October, and closes on Thursday 4th November.
