Candidates have until 12 noon this Friday (13th August 2021) to get their nominations in for the Trust Horizon Election of Trustees. Trust Horizon (formerly Eastern Bay Energy Trust) is a Charitable Trust dedicated to bringing transformational benefits to the Eastern Bay, through the funding of energy-related projects. The trustee positions up for election are for the Whakatāne District Council and Kaingaroa Village areas. The positions represent an opportunity for two community leaders to play a role in creating positive community change.

The two successful candidates will join the Trust’s total board of six trustees, which includes four elected and two appointed trustees. Of the four elected trustees, two are from the Whakatāne District Council/Kaingaroa Village area, one from the Kawerau District Council area, and one is from the Ōpōtiki District Council area. “The role of Trust Horizon’s trustees is to ensure that the Trust’s funds are directed to the right place, and have the biggest impact possible on the community,” says Trust Manager, Derek Caudwell. “The elected candidates will form part of a strong and experienced group of trustees, working together to achieve our vision of enabling prosperity, pride, and people.”

To be eligible for nomination, a candidate must be aged over 18 years, and be resident within the Whakatāne District Council/Kaingaroa Village area. Nomination papers can be downloaded here, sent out via email or post (simply phone the electoral office on 0800 922 822 to request), or collected in person from the Trust Horizon office at 5 Richardson Street in Whakatāne, between the hours of 9.00am-3.30pm, Monday to Thursday.

If more than two nominations are received by the time nominations close at noon on Friday 13 August 2021, an election will be held by postal and electronic voting.
